home. sweet home.

i’m happy with my final outcome of my portfolio.
i ended up having 12 ink jet prints.
i eliminated a few that i didn’t think quite fit so well.
it’s done for now. but think i might still work on it in the future.
here’s my artist statement and pictures i chose…

After living in a smaller town my whole life, moving downtown to the “big city” was a slight change in lifestyle. These photographs show the real city and not just the nice and beautiful things associated with city life. When people first think of a city, the one thing that comes to mind is the bustling, busy life and tall buildings looming over people. Instead, I chose to show the everyday things that are overlooked or not noticed.

While living in Lexington, I grew up with my family on two acres of land with a huge pond in our backyard. Even though I would visit downtown for different occasions, it was not very well known to me. While spending 22 years in this “country” town, I finally moved to the city. Traffic, crowds, and bigger buildings were a few things out of the ordinary and different to me. Of course, these were the first things I noticed, but I also noticed that Columbia had a lot of things that didn’t make it so beautiful. I started noticing the things that didn’t make it so beautiful and perfect as a city, but the things that make it unique and more interesting. I like seeing things as they really are and what makes them their own. These photographs show Columbia through my eyes and what I think makes it unique. It may not show the nicer parts of this city, but it shows things that make this city one of a kind.
